Polskie Osadnictwo

Polish Settlement in Alberta

Polish immigrants began arriving in Alberta in the late 19th century, drawn by the promise of fertile farmland and new opportunities. These hardy pioneers established farms, communities, and cultural institutions that continue to thrive today.

From the agricultural settlements of east-central Alberta to the urban communities of Edmonton and Calgary, Polish-Canadians have made lasting contributions to the province's economic, cultural, and social fabric.

Pomnik Marynarki Polskiej

Polish Navy Monument

On September 27, 2025, a historic monument honoring Polish naval veterans was unveiled at Halifax Port near Pier 21. The Polonia Foundation contributed $4,000 to this project, including funds from the Hedinger Family Trust.

The monument, spearheaded by the Polish Emigration Memorial Society (PEMS), commemorates the Polish sailors who served alongside Allied forces during WWII and the many Polish immigrants who arrived in Canada through Pier 21.
