Stanislaw Muszynski was a Polish sailor who served on ORP Dragon during the D-Day landings in Normandy. The D-Day Landings

On June 6, 1944, Stanislaw Muszynski was aboard ORP Dragon as part of the massive Allied fleet supporting the Normandy landings. The Polish cruiser provided vital naval gunfire support to troops landing on the beaches, helping to suppress German coastal defenses.

For weeks after D-Day, ORP Dragon continued to support Allied operations along the Normandy coast, providing fire support and protecting the beachhead from German counterattacks.

The Polish Navy played a significant role in Operation Overlord, with multiple vessels participating in the largest amphibious invasion in history.

July 8, 1944 - The Torpedo Attack

On July 8, 1944, just over a month after D-Day, tragedy struck. ORP Dragon was hit by a German torpedo while operating off the Normandy coast. The explosion killed 37 Polish sailors - Stanislaw Muszynski's crewmates and friends.

Muszynski survived the attack, one of the fortunate crew members who escaped the sinking vessel. The loss of his shipmates would stay with him for the rest of his life, a reminder of the price of freedom.

A New Life in Alberta

In 1949, Stanislaw Muszynski immigrated to Alberta, joining the growing Polish-Canadian community in Edmonton. Like many veterans of his generation, he channeled his energy into building a new life while maintaining strong ties to his Polish heritage.

Muszynski became a successful entrepreneur, founding Dragon Electric Ltd. - named in honor of his lost ship and fallen crewmates. He also co-founded the Polish Credit Union, helping fellow Polish-Canadians build financial security in their new homeland.

Throughout his life, Muszynski remained active in the Polish Combatants Association Branch No. 6 in Edmonton, ensuring that the sacrifices of Polish servicemen were never forgotten.
